Especially in a focused and effective way.
I want you to know exactly what YOU most need when you have 30 minutes to yourself next time. Whether that is taking a well deserved nap, painting, or cranking out the next task on your road-map we’ve created together towards a big dream.
Yes, I’m slightly yelling this out loud, because I get really fervent about wanting people to see their potential as much as we see it in others. And I’m not known for being quiet.
It makes me sad when I see too many people being so hard on themselves (remember, I co-founded Carve Out Time for Art, a community of 32K creatives). In fact, it gets me worked up in a good way to want to help people along and figure out a path that will work for their unique goals. And, it does not need to look like the same path everyone seems to follow these days.
Reality to get this done over 5 years.

Not how I imagined launch day of our new book would be. Working a 12 hour day for my dayjob, remotely during a pandemic, and taking a 30 minute lunch break to celebrate with some champagne on IG Live with my partner Heather Kirtland.
I supported my family as the sole earner in my professional career commuting 10 hours weekly. I was a mentor & committee chair.
I moved my family from Philly to Florida and into my parent’s home temporarily. After it was clear my Dad was not doing well, the home arrangement became permanent, and I helped him as he lived the remainder of his life in the most gracious way possible. I had a 2nd child.
I started Carve Out Time for Art and grew it from zero to 32K on Instagram. We hosted events in person, virtually, interviewed 100 artist mothers, hosted 200+ Artist Takeovers, got a publisher for a book after 3 rounds of trying, and it just launched…during a Global Pandemic. I learned how to how use Adobe Illustrator and make seamless repeat patterns. I submitted to Minted and won some editor’s picks. I finished several 100 Day Projects. I made wonderful creative friends. I presented at Altitude Summit. I interviewed to be on NBC Making It (didn’t get chosen, but it sure was a fun opportunity!) I sold art and illustrations. I donated artwork for charities and was a guest on podcasts I fan-girled over, and was in HGTV and Create! Magazine.
But I want you to know that I got this done by focusing my goals, being strategic, and also having to let some things I want to be doing percolate on the back burner for now.
“Marissa has a natural ability to connect, educate, inspire, all while keeping it fun! I would totally recommend working with her as she is savvy, and able to help a newbie like me (she got me to take the Band-Aid off and sign up for Instagram), up to pros in the class who needed to get to the next level in their social media game. Marissa will meet you where you are, and help you use your wings to get to the next level!! ”
“After our session, the next steps were so succinct, encouraging and felt doable. Thank you for helping me to distill it down like this. It was so wonderful to talk with you and process all the loose ideas in my mind, and sort through what’s worth pursuing right now while still growing gently.
I really appreciated the occasional check-ins in the months following our meeting to see how I’m doing with what we talked about to help remind me to check in with my own vision and direction. And that we’ve been able to establish a relationship, which you’re so great about in general!”
“Marissa is such an amazing spirit. I think that’s why I like many others are drawn to her. She’s often given me encouragement as I’ve sought to balance work and family life with the need to create art. She’s helped me to see things differently and to not be so hard on myself. I value her advice and love catching glimpses of her finding ways to balance the same things.
I really appreciate how she took time to help me... for an extended period of time and relayed her feedback in such a comforting and fun way! She’s so easy to talk to and you can tell that she genuinely cares and wants to see you be the best possible version of yourself. Marissa you’re a real gem.”
“I did this course with Marissa and I am very satisfied with what I got. At first I thought it would be short but Marissa manages to make good use of each session. It goes without saying that she is very easy to work with because of the way she speaks and how she presents concepts. I am very happy because she offered me new tips to update my website, she enlightened me with the importance of having a newsletter (even if it is short!) And I also discovered new applications to work with that will help me to improve my business in an internet environment.”
